How did the name Snappy Kraken come about?
This question comes up often:
"How did the name Snappy Kraken come about?"
The shortest answer: Deliberately.
Here's the longer answer.
When we started building the idea out, we put together a 10-point list of naming & branding requirements we wanted for our company.
Being forgettable wasn’t an option. The name (and logo!) had to stand out, be positive, and be fun.
We had to hit these 10 points:
- Abstractly Relate to the Offering
- Be Fun & Positive
- Pass the Phone Test
- Pass the .Com Test
- Pass the Ending-Beginning-Letter Test
- Pass the Easy Spelling Test
- Pass the Cocktail Party Email Test
- Pass the Logo Test
- Have Auditory Aesthetic (does it sound pleasant? roll off the tongue? Fun to say?)
- Make it Stand Out
We believe you have to push through bad ideas to get to the good ones.
Initially, we had lots of bad names.
Bad ideas have a role. They move you in the right direction, but only if you’re willing to keep pushing.
We had a few bad drafts for business names until we landed on a name that had the word “octopus” in it. The name was Charming Octopus.
Definitely not a winner, but the octopus theme appealed to us.
The octopus abstractly relates to our offering. After all, we create automated marketing campaigns. Campaigns have many moving parts, which can get overwhelming for financial professionals...even professional marketers. With all those tentacles, an octopus is well-equipped to coordinate multiple connections simultaneously.
I know, cute. But, that's a topic for another day.
The name ended up evolving into Snappy Kraken.
It makes people smile when they hear or say the name, which means a lot to us. It certainly gets attention.
Try doing that with a name like "Blah Blah Blah Marketing Solutions".
